replacement shocks '02 A6 4.2
Hey... new to this site. wanted to ask if anyone with an '02 A6 4.2 could help me decide on new shocks for my car... was looking for better than the original ones. talked to a tech. at bilstein.. told me they don't make a shock for the 4.2. someone mentioned koni shocks?? anyone have any thoughts?? thank you, BillA6

Welcome to AudiWorld! Are you looking to replace shocks only, or shocks and springs?
If just shocks, I think Koni makes a decent product for the C5 A6. Is your 4.2 sport or non-sport? If you are looking for shocks AND springs, consider coilovers. Bilstein makes a VERY nice package PSS9 which has adjustments for height AND dampening.
I am on stock sport shocks and springs (car came that way) and I like it. "If" anything fails I "might" consider going to the Bilstein PSS9, but I am not 100% sure. I like the ride of the OEM sport.
Oh, and lastly, if you are looking to get your car to handle better in the corners, get a set of H-sport sways. The absolute BEST bang-for-the-buck mod you can do to improve your car's handling.

My car did come with the sports package...I'll most likely go to the dealer and pick up the oem shocks. Unless there are other places to find them??
I bought the car with 31000 miles on it. Don't remember what the originals felt like. But, now with over 100k, it has to be better than what I have now. Thanks again..

Not lowering the car..just wanted another choice, other than OEM. But, maybe OEM will be a good choice. Dealer the only source for them? Who made the OEM for the 4.2 sport? The parts guy at the dealer said he didn't have a brand name...

If not covered under warranty, I suggest...
you NOT involve the dealer in repairs. They get you for the parts (HUGE markup) and their service rates are much higher per hour.
Find a good local independant shop and have them do the work. You'll save some much needed $$$.
