Going to replace torque converter but I have a question

Default Going to replace torque converter but I have a question

Is it wise to change out the transmission pump while I'm in there? How much is the part itself and do they usually fail?

Default If it's apart, why not have the whole shooting match done. Think of it along the lines

of replacing the t-belt. Do everything and save yourself grief later. Murphy's law says the part you ignore will be the next problem area.

Default Scroll down and read VAST's comment on aftermarket TC's.

If I was going to replace a TC and the job wasn't covered by warranty I'd go with a strengthened TC. As well as a new transmission TC seal. A hydraulic pump at this point is cheap insurance..it's at the front of the trans under the TC usually...I'm not familiar with this ZF? trans, but normally the pumps are driven by the tangs on the end of the TC.
The rest of the job usually is determined by what went wrong in the first place. If the trans is slipping or there is a large amount of deposits in the pan that is indicative of clutch/band wear and at that point you might as well rebuild the trans because labor to pull the engine/trans is stiff.

Why replace something that's not broken? I don't plan on keeping the car forever lol.

Default Let me revise my question, Is there any way to check if the pump is bad?

transmission shifts just fine but it is a tad noisy on cold start-ups.
