Default 4D4, quick alignment question for you...

...place that installed my snows Tuesday said they could not do the alignment because of frozen tie rod ends in back. I am assuming that they are talking about the nuts for the eccentric bolts in the rear?

I saw this post by PaulW in the archives. Just wanted to confirm with you that this is the adjustment needed for the rear alignment. If I interpret their message from Tuesday, the nuts are frozen onto the bolt, and cannot be removed.

Indy shop across the street (Greg's Repair) is going to help me tomorrow with this matter. I just wanted to understand the process a bit more. Thoughts???

PaulW's post

Default It's similar to that.

Most likely they can get the nuts off, but the bolts are fused to the bushings. Because the bushings are rubber, it's hard to break them free since the bushings twist and absorb any shock.

My plan is repeated doses of penetrating oil.

Default Thanks. I believe Greg is just going to replace with new...

...which is fine by me.

Let me know how it goes, please. I haven't even priced out the rods.

Default Would be unusual to replace the rods...the bushing can be replaced...

It's probably a $30 bush at the dealer...$15 elsewhere.

Loctite has a new liquid wrench out...deep freezes the nut/bolt (<-45F) and lets lube in.

I haven't tried it yet, but loctite generally has great stuff and Popular Science ranked it in their best products article.

http://www.loctitefreezeandrelease.com/</a

Default Your posts seem to be at odds with each other.

But I definitely will try the new juice. Good tip.

Bolt at the left side of 24 is the adjustment.

Default UPDATE: No parts needed, all nuts/bolts have been unfrozen,

...so simple cost of alignment plus some labor to free up the parts. Greg's Repair in Natick is awesome!!!
