Engine Coolant Sensor on 2002 A6

My check engine light had been on for a while and my mechanic told me it had something to do with this sensor. I ended up taking it in to the dealership and they worked on some other stuff and also offered to replace the sensor. I figured why not and it cost about 200 bucks. I'm reading online though that there was some sort of a warranty extension for the engine coolant sensor for certain models from 2001-2004. My question is should I have paid for that repair or should it have been free?

call audi of america and give them your vin, they will let you know if your vin was affected by that

Thanks...gave them a call and the girl said she'd try to see if I could get reimbursed but the extension only went to 100,000 miles. So we'll see. Too bad I didn't have it replaced a few thousand miles sooner.
