Uh oh.... No reverse all of a sudden...

Well, this a.m. I put the car in reverse -- and virtually nothing happened. It was like the clutch was slipping on a manual drive. Runs fine in all forward gears, but engine rev's and virtually no reverse movement.

Diagnoses? Suggestions? Dealer says some kind of module may need to be changed out. It's an A6 4.2 w/ 123K miles on it. Dealer also says may be in vicinity of $1500 or so....

Your help would be appreciated. TIA...

Try clearing codes first, you never know.

Have you had any CE lights with the "No power transmitted" code?

Blown F piston for reverse. Known problem for 01' 4.2 A6 A/S8.

Yes, changed tranny fluid at about 65K and was taking it in next weekend to do again...

Not sure what the "F" piston is, but will inquire about that at dealer (trusted dealer and mechanic).

Actually, I think it is jealousy on the part of the A6, as we just brought home the "new" '06 S4, and it is getting all the attention...
