rear wheel bearing replacement questions - I'm in the middle of it now
Can anyone confirm that the bearing is only a press [and corrosion] fit - no retaining circlips just like the bentley procedure exploded view? I see none, and with copious penetrating oil I can't get the bearing to budge. In fact, in trying I managed to find the weak point in FLAPS rental tool [evil grin]
The "head" of the forcing bolt sheared loose. It's made from a hardened all-thread with nut welded on one end with about 0.5mm of penetration. I pulled the threads and broke the weld with my man hands and a 1/2" breaker bar. Sorry no picture yet.
Anyway it looks like I'll be applying some heat to the cast carrier and I'd like to remove the ABS sensor - does the lead come off the sensor head or do I need to disconnect the entire length to thread the sensor out?
thanks for the picture Tony

Heat is not needed, just a little impact. Use the tool to get some tension on the bearing, then tap it with a hammer. Store the new bearing in the freezer prior to installation.
I ended up breaking the nut off the forcing screw 2 more times before throwing in the towel. Now I've gotta repair the rental tool again and return it so I can get my $$$ back.
