Default Had my A6 looked at my a local mechanic. Said I need a full tune up, new plugs, coils, gaskets, and

a new fuel filter. He said all of the work plus labor would come in around $1300-$1400. Sounds pricey, anyone think otherwise?

Depends on what engine is in your car.

Default But they are assuming its all the coils and are just replacing them all?

Usually if a missfire is b/c of a coilpack its one maybe 2 not all of them.

Maybe thats what they do now a day. I never take mine in for a tune-up I do it all myself.

Are you handy at all? If I were you I would change my plugs myself and then see if the CEL comes back. if it does find out what cylinder and replace that one. Or have the mechanic trouble shoot the bad coil pack if thats even it.

Default My experience has been that coils are like toilet flappers - if one's bad, all likely getting there

Again, just my experience - I changed out one, and another would eat it, then another. Ended up just changing the whole set (I think they were like 6 bucks each).

Maybe the guys with bolt-on coils don't have them going south as often as the push-in, pull-out coils (like I have - gah).

Obviously, just one datapoint, and MMV....
