It's mod time in the four rings house ... seeking suggestions and advice
I recently acquired a 2004 A6 2.7T with the S-Line trim package and I'm itching to start swapping out parts!
One thing that I've realized that I miss is a navigation system. Has anyone swapped out their symphony radio for something new? I also have the XM Radio receiver and antenna that came with the car. Can I re-use the receiver with a new XM Ready head unit? How does it work with the existing steering wheel controls for volume and changing the station?
Also, has anyone re-engineered the On-Star button to work with their own cell phone/hands free kit? I can't say that I really want/need on-star. It just sits there on the roof and never gets touched. I think it's lonely.
Other mods I would like to explore are rims and performance enhancements (especially for the turbo). Any suggestion/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Brad
Your XM unit is not compatible with the RNS-E. You'll need to get a new unit with the right part number to work.
As far as the phone, yes, you can do the OEM bluetooth module, swapping out the OnStar module under the passenger seat for the bluetooth module. But again, the parts for that are not cheap. I think the BT module goes for about $400 or so, sometimes less if you look hard enough.
Both mods are very well documented in the (former) navplus forum, now audiforms.us. Most of what you'll need to look at you can find at www.nsxjr.com. Go to the downloads link and look for the PDF on the Symphony II to RNS-E.
Welcome to the fold, and best of luck!
