Default Tire size question

I need to start looking for a set of tires for my new Hartmann RS6 wheels, and I am a little bit puzzled about the size. The wheels are 18" so technically I should go with 255/35/18, but Hartmann recommends 255/40/18 for better comfort and pot hole protection. I am not concerned that the speedometer will be reading by 4% off, but I am worried about rubbing issues. The car has been lowered by Eibach Pro springs, and if I am not mistaken I get 1.2" drop f&r.

Would I have a problem if I decide to go with the 255/40/18's ?

Default for one thing, you will not be able to fit a full size spare in your trunk in that size...

...and I would expect a bit of rubbing since your car is lowered.

Default Ugh! You are right about the spare, but I didn't buy a 5th wheel anyway, because of the $$$

I was planning to keep one of the "pie plates" for spare, but now when I think about it I can only go with 255/35/18 if I do that, otherwise I will have different diameters, which can't be good.

I am just concerned about the 35 sidewall - I think this is too little rubber for such a heavy car and out "wonderful" Massachusetts roads. I bet the ride comfort isn't great either...

Default 35 sidewall will be fine, just not in winter and early-spring...

...gotta wait for the potholes to be fixed!!!

Default They never get fixed!!! Towns like Belmont and Lexington are like mine fields.........

I avoid them like the Plague!

"Hi Kalin, a 255-40-18 is our more common tire fitment for the A6 4.2, we haven't had any rubbing issues with that size tire before on that vehicle though I don't know for sure if any of our customers have Eibach pro springs on. From my experience I don't foresee any issues with using that size of tire though."

Default I think you will be OK as it equates to half-a-centimeter inward progression from what I run. But

I am not 100% sure. As for the 40s, I have the same springs and run on 245-40-18s without any issues.
