My 02 A6 4.2 has developed a strange beeping issue.
The beep comes from the dash and is similar to the one that accompanies warnings although not as loud. I'm not getting any warning lights or pictoral displays. It beeps every five minutes and the weirdest thing is it does it even when the key is removed and I'm out of the car. Any ideas? I searched the archives and found plenty of threads about beeping, but nothing quite like this. Thanks in advance for any help.

anything aftermarket installed, such as a radar detector, or aftermarket stereo?
...seems odd that it would continue even if the car is off and key is removed.
Maybe you could remove the lower dash panel, as well as the instrument cluster and se if you can locate the source of the noise?
