Default Joining the ranks for the C5 owners... thought I would say hello

Coming off weeks of stress dealing with my UrS6 that was totaled by someone who thought it was ok to drive fast on ice with summer tires...

If all goes right I will be picking up a 2002 S6 on Monday and bringing it back to Boston area.

While I will miss the raw nature of the UrS6, a car that is 7 years newer can't be a bad thing. Plus I have always liked the avants. Looking forward to meeting everyone over here.

Cheers

Default Good choice! The C5 S6 is a great car. You'll miss the manual trans the most.

My wife has a C5 S6. It's great on long trips, but for DD duty I would never give up my UrS. The tip trans drives me nuts around town because it's always a 1/2 step behind when I want to drive agressively. The tip option and S mode are nice, but I always forget that I'm in tip until I take off from a light and the RPM shoots up w/o shifting. It may be a different story if you drive a tip car every day.

The ride quality and general solid feel of the C5 are it's biggest assets over the C4. The improved suspension hides the weight of the C5 Avant nicely.

My wife's car is just a tick slower than my chipped UrS, but I have to go for a fairly agressive launch to stay in front. That 4.2 makes great torque down low!

Default Tiptronic trans is actually pretty cool. I drove manuals all my life

and I find the Tip. trans very enjoyable. I'm not a big fan of the regular automatic trans but the A6/S6 Tip is really not that bad.

Default I have started some research, does the GIAC Tip Chip make much difference in the shift points?

or the speed of the shifts? I have a lot of reading left to do on the C5 as a whole.
