S8 vs. '04 A8
I expect the new '05 S8 will have to have a really strong engine to compete with AMG's. But between engine and brake upgrades it will probably have a base price of 100 G's. Will current S8 owners step up to pay that much or more, or bite the bullet and get the regular A8, which has much better dynamics that the old S8?
I very much doubt, though, that an A8L will handle better than the old S8. Test reports show the S8 cornering at 0.87 g, but the '04 A8L at only 0.78 g (thanks to it's 400+ lb of extra weight). Unless the new S8 is less than 4000 lb, I wouldn't be interested even if it had 500+ HP. More power is always good, but I just don't get that much plessure driving in a straight line.
My car seems to have more raw power and tighter handling. Obviously, everything comes into play here including tires, etc. But that extra length and weight are big factors to the way the car felt to me.
Really loved the quality of the interior. Another top notch effort by Audi.
