Another cruis controll question-Paul?? Anyone?
My A8 started to have same cruise control problem as were experienced by some of you guys.
The cruise works some times but most of the times it does not engage.
I fallowed some tips from the board and also fallowed the troubleshooting guide in the Bentley.
This is what I know so far:
The system itself is not leaking. I tested it using the test provided in Bentley.
The dump valve at the brake pedal is OK as well. The system is sealed with the dump valve closed (brake at it's up position)
The Actuator with membrane is brand new. (I initially suspected it and replaced it-35$ at the dealer)
SO now there are 3 major components left that I am not sure how to test.
1-cruise control computer-left side of car-plenum.
2-vacuum pump---I guess I can figure out a way to test it once I will get to it.
3- the actual switch on the column--I really don't think that it is broken. When ever it works, it works well. If it would die, would it not function all the time?
Please HELP!!! replacing computer is 350$ for the part--vacuum pump is 150$--switch is 175$!!! All of these rather expensive!!
I am leaning toward the pump but don't wont to replace parts blindly!!

also, search for posts by docmusolf --he discusses it further but I think a dealer replced much of his parts for the system.
Unfortunatelly the 97-99 A8s do not have the diagnose capability via Ross teck. 2000+ on the other Hand DO!
THanks
