Default Bad night for S8 - continues! (long rant)

So just over a month ago I posted here on my 2001 S8 being broken into. Most of the time since then it has been sitting at a Northern NJ Body Shop waiting for ignition parts to come in. But they finally showed up early last week and the shop got to work on my car. So after two delays this week, this morning I was supposed to get my baby back. After dropping off the POS rental Corolla that my insurance company stopped paying for Friday, I call the body shop and they tell me the car went back to the Stealer (Jack Daniels Motors) that it started with a month ago, as the alignment is way off and all kinds of VAG codes came up including the check engine light.

So since I am out with the wife and kids in my only other car we drive over to the dealer who first says they don't know what car I am talking about and then admits they know the car but haven't even looked at it and won't likely be able to as they have a full schedule booked. When I look around it looks like they are "full" with various VW's and A4's. Even better they have no loaners and "might" be able to get me an Enterprise car (another POS I'm sure) on Monday after 8am. So here I am no car, clients to visit Monday before 8am and a dealer that chooses not to distinguish between their top of line car customers and the guy with a 1997 Jetta. Admittedly this is not the dealer where I bought the car, but these guys , who sent the car to the body shop and were responsible for Taking a month to get an ingition part won't even give me the courtesy of looking at the car or giving me an ETA. The best they will commit is to try and look at it and call me by the end of the day.

They close at 4pm so when I haven't heard by 3:50 I call and now they say they think its a part in the steering column, and depending on which of two parts it is they either have it or need to order it. So best case is end of day Monday and if they have to order it who knows? The service rep is kind enough to remind me that this steering column is very complex so they need to take their time.

Well I guess I figured out why BMW & MB sell so may more 7 series and S class cars versus A8's - all it takes is a service visit or two and you realize you may as well own a Beetle because you are going to get the same treatment either way.

Len, I am sorry to hear of your trouble. Isnt there an Audi zone rep. that can help you even though your car isnt brand new? Is there another dealer up there who might be able to do more for you?

Default Last time the car will be at this Service Dept.

I will have to let them see this through and from now I will go to Zumbach in Manhattan - went there once a month after I got the car - no appointment, to have them look at my windshield washers which were freezing up, took care of it no problem.

Default warning on zumbach. they are notoriously dishonest.

these guys who told me when i switch my 2000 A8 from mineral oil to synthetic i absolutely must do a complete engine flush. which they were happy to do (i believe their service rate is $105/hr). i was dumb founded. called bruno in queens (former audi factory rally driver) and he didn't belive that a dealer would say something to wrong and so stupid.

closest i've found in a competent, honest dealer anywhere near nyc is fairfield audi, part of roger penske's auto dealer group. headed up there in a week or so for the 40k mile service and the recent recall thing. shame i have to drive an hour to the closest competent, trustworthy dealer.

My experience has been the same. How can you pay so much for such a great car and have a service experience that is so bad. Does anyone think Audi is ever going to get it?

I have had a similar nightmare in Atlanta with Jim Ellis Audi. I bought my car (2001 Siver S8) while living in Mass., at Fairfield Audi in CT ... awesome service! I am at the 3 year mark and end of lease ... bye bye Audi, hello BMW. My wife has an Allroad that is up next year ... again bye bye Audi ... hello anyone.
