'04 A8L- first real glitch with S/N 3178
A salesman who owns an '03 allroad and A4 Cab payed a visit the other day at my office. He had seen my car and few days before and went for a test drive and fell in love. He asked my to show him what the MMI controls and how it works in detail...so we jumped in the car. First thing I notice...MMI screen doesn't open...then no lights in center console, then no radio, OnStar, phone, Nav...etc! The whole system is down along with the in dash display.
A half hour later after feeling embarassed I call the service department to bring the car in the next day to see what fault codes the car amassed....then I go to restart the car and everthing is...you guessed it back to normal.
The only explanation I got from the service department was somewhere between we haven't got a clue and we reset the error codes and must be the "Suns' stormy situation or a Sun spot pheonamena".
Anyone have any ideas on this one or was it an early Halloween scare.

IT all depends on what fault codes got set. The MMI is on the fiber optic network, and if anything goes out and it can take everythig on the fiber optics with it. I have seen something similar and have had to replace the MMI control module for it. Good luck.

I've had a number of instances like this
Occasionally something will strike - the headlights won't turn off, the MMI screen won't deploy upon starting, etc. I always cross my fingers that when I restart the car, the problem will resolve. When it doesn't, I will have a major complaint.

Chronic, when Audi starts blaming the sun, look out! Occasionally my screen will not pop up but I have never lost the system per se. The problem, as I see it, is that we dont know if these are one or two time issues or is there something inherently wrong with the system. What is your relationship with your dealer and your "advocate"? Do you trust them or do you get the feeling that they simply just "dont know"?
