To all '04 A8L owners
I suggest that you take your car in to the dealership and ask them to do the software upgrade. It will fix most (knock on wood) if not all your problems. All the little nuscences that I had before are gone. IMHO this is the best "mod" you can do right now. I feel a difference in the engine too. It feels more eager to rev and more peppy, and goes quicker than before, too.

Hey Wasabi, thanks for the info. My serial number is 8170 and I just picked up my car October 22. Do you think the software upgrade is there? I know on the MMI there is a page you can see the software revision number. Do you know a software revision number? Thanks

I'am not sure about when it was released
but that was one of my main problems with my car. After the upgrade the MMI screen hasn't come up with a black screen ever since I got it fixed. Also my automatic headlights work too. I'm sure if you have the black screen problem you should take it in before it elevates to a worse stiuation.

Wasabi, the only real issue that I have is the inconsistant "roll up" of the MMI screen on ignition and that certainly is something I can live with. I heard a strange noise today from what I thought was behind the left rear wheel. I shut the car off and a sound like a motor recycling started and lasted about 5-7 seconds. I thought that it might be the suspension but it didnt move. The trials and tribulations of.......................!!!
