Default ipod / phatnoise / radio / '04 A8L

Just got a new Audi accessory catalog. It says phatnoise is compatible with all models EXCEPT '04 A8L. I also checked with AOA...all connections in '04 are supposedly fiber optic (including new Sirius and XM satellite radios to be offered). I have been trying to get my ipod connected....so far only way has been with a NESA FM transmitter which is about the best you can get but reception can be spotty. Would love any other ideas.

Default just out of curiousity...

i'm a rather young '04 A8L owner (let's just say i'm still younger than half the base price of an A8L). i figured that the ipod's demographics are more for my age than for the demographics of A8 owners. But i seem to see alot of ipods being used here.

I bought one for a friend but i never found it to be a device to own. it's cool but it seems as though the ipod has somehow grown to be an icon (like Apple itself) in and of itself especially with it's cross platform capability - now even more with the introduction of iTunes for Windows.

btw, i am a BIG Apple computer fan (i'm using a dual gig G4 with a 22" cinema display as I type) so i'm not downgrading the ipod. it's just interesting to see so many different age groups using it.

so what do you guys do with the ipod? and why has it become so much an important item that you would want to integrate it with your A8?

maybe i'm just too uptight for my age (that's what my g/f tells me anyway).

sorry for stealing your topic, jaywax.

Default iPOD connects via FM Transmitter

It is not a perfect solution for my '04 A8L, but I have been using a Belkin plug-in FM transmitter nodule to transmit my iPOD music wirelessly. The Apple Store has several available. These mini-transmitters were reviewed in the November '03 issue of MacWorld magazine. Tune your radio to an unused frequency near 88 mHz, save it as a favorite station, and away you go.

Default My iPod looks great...

... sitting on the desk in the charger next to my computer. That's about the only use that it gets. I have taken it on flights before, but usually don't even bother with that.

As for the age group question, I'm not sure what you consider "young," but I am 33.

Default Why carry six CDs in your car when you can carry your whole collection on an iPod?

I rest my case. You can every CD you own on an iPod, plus if you have a friend with MP3's....you might be able to get those on there too!

I am in mid 40's and have transferred over 300 full length cd's onto it. The FM transmitter I use is way better than the Belkin but not as good as the cassette with the wire I used to use in my old car. I'm looking for a better solution.

Default Here's another way you can do it

Just splice it into the CD wires and hardwire a power supply, would most likely be very easy with the CD player in the glove box.

Default PaulW: Are there audio inputs on the back of the '04 CD player?

Wiring in an iPOD would be a snap if there are audio inputs on the back of the CD Player in the glove box. Has anyone removed the '04 CD Player to check this ??

PaulW, any ideas??
