Default question for DC/VA/MD area a8 owners and service related question

given the following choices of dealerships in the area (listed are ones that are close to me), which one would you goto for service?

i've searched and got some mixed oppinions about HBL. more negative stories on alexandria. and don't know about the others. but wanted to hear some personal stories/recommendations.

- HBL of Tyson VA
- Francis Scott Key Audi MD
- Rockville Porsche-Audi MD
- Audi of Alexandria VA
- Tischer Autopark MD

i called the audi customer relation and found out where and what the car was last serviced. looks like the previous owner did a fairly good job keeping up. did all the scheduled maintence upto and including 45k mile service. rotors and pads replaced at 56k miles. came back to dealership shortly after 60k miles but DID NOT to the 60k service but rather, traded the car in and got a new S8 (Jan 8th 2003).

the car is at 67k miles now...... since the 60k service wasnt done, i will probably get the 60k service done(although it's 'past due') and then do the 90k service (another big one a/ timing belt + waterpump) with oil changes in between since i dont drive the a8 much.

haha sorry. this post got needlessly long.

Default I have heard negative stories about Tischer as well. I have been using

Rockville without incident. Talk to either Jack or "Beaver". These guys will help whenever they can. I have been very happy with the service.

Well, I live near to Tischer but haven't taken the car to them yet. As a point of reference, I did stop by before I purchased my car to ask what the damage would be on the 60K service (my car currently has 57K on it). They wanted $1100.00; I will be having that one done at an independent shop, which reminds me ... if you are looking for an inde shop, give Pro-Imports in Gaithersburg (near to Shady Grove Metro) a try.

Default I bought mine at Criswell Audi (Anapolis)...

Friend knows the owner. I heard that Rockville does a good job. They sure treated Dinan right with his exchange of the '04 A8 for an RS6.

Default Out of Warranty?

Tekwon-V:

I am a long time HBL Customer..that being said,if your car is out of warranty (and it would appears that yours IS) then you may consider giving your business to someone else besides the dealer.

I have used Intersport in Tyson's Corner (703-242-8680) to do all of my post-warranty service. Disclaimer: don't work there, but do appreciated their service.

The $1,000 + price tag for service @ HBL was $400 @ Intersport.

Just a thought...

Default question back to noluckboutit or any other HBL customers

noluckboutit,

thanx for your reply. i will give them a call and get some more informtation.

question about HBL.... do they give a complimentary rental while it's being serviced? i did NOT buy the car there, never had business with them in the past.

yes, my car is WAY over the warranty limit. 1998 w/ 67k miles.

Default Re: question back to noluckboutit or any other HBL customers

I've used the HBL service group for the under warrenty stuff for my '01. They've been shuffling through service reps and they are about to open up more bays across the street. The service manager is good. The last service was the 30k and it was as it should be - quick, and with the car in better shape than I dropped it off.

I believe they will not provide a loaner for free if it is out of warrenty, particularly if you didn't buy it from them. Recommend giving the service manager (Paul) a call. Pk

Tekwon-V:

The official stance is no loaner car; unofficially, like most things in life, its all about how pleasantly you ask for a loaner car, the mood of the Service Rep that day & availability. The HBL expansion (courtesy of Roger Penske) will drastically enlarge their ability to service/support their growth in sales/service.

I won't bore you with the stories about the attitudes of their sales people.

Call Intersport...drop by their shop & talk with Omar (one of the owners). They know Audis very well & I can vouch for their service. His spot is actually about 400 yards from HBL on Tyco Road in Tysons. HBL will be 2x the cost.

Default i called intersport....... interesting

the initial "feeling" was good. the dude answered the phone was friendly and took my message (to give it to the right person) and "glen" called me back 2hrs after i left the message. glen was also friendly.

but... unlike your $400 ish price, glen quoted me for $650 and this was w/o the brake fluid replacing. 60k service clearly states that replacing brake fluid is part of it. he said that was $95 or so extra and that he'd need the car first thing in the morning 'til almost closing time.

perhaps, i should call again and ask to speak with omar.... maybe i should mention your name noluckboutit... wut's your real name?

oh yea and i called HBL and they wanted $950 for the 60k service. man... that's a lot of money.
