Default '04 Anticipation.

My '04 is scheduled to arrive at the dealership sometime late today. If it does, I'll swing by tonight and take a look. I'm excited to see it because other than Greenie's pics, I've not seen the A8L black interior. Excuse me... "sabre." I won't actually take delivery until the windows are tinted and the phone cradle is installed though.

Anything specific to this car that I need to be looking for, or verify before taking delivery (MMI functions to double-check, etc)?

I don't care how many new cars I've owned, I'm still like a ridiculous kid at Christmas when a new one is right around the corner.

This sounds great X! I am anxiously awaiting pix showing silver with tinting. What tinting percentage are you going with? 20, 35? At this point, most of the "bugs" should be DOA. Every once in awhile, the MMI will not open immediately upon ignition but within 5 seconds you`ll see it. Other than that, at least with mune, that should be it. This should be a "different kind of Christmas" unlike any of the others because this is a "different kind of car"! My two favorite interiors are amaretto and sabre, in that order. I couldnt see putting amaretto in a silver car so sabre it is. You`ll love it.

Default I'm going with 35%.

I love the Amaretto interior too, but had the same reluctance to pair it with the Light Silver exterior. I might have been tempted to pair it with the Atlas exterior though. Maybe next time.

I also was tempted by the Atlas but there was something about that Light Silver!!!! I was also considering 35% although the double-pane glass makes it already look a bit darker. The only reason I may not tint is because I have a DVD setup in the rear with screens in the headrests. At night, the screens emit a beautiful blue tint and its worth the price of admission to watch people pull along side and scratch their heads or point or smile etc.

I know your feeilings. I just picked mineup last week Wednesday (night blue/amaretto) 400 miles no problems. My dealer saved a bunch of radio stations to memory that I didn't want. You cannot delete them but have to store a new station on top of the one you don't want.

checklist:

1) DVD nav disc came with the car
2) On-Star prep
3) Body/Paint defects/scratches - check rims too - any issues; get an IOU from the dealer
4) learn all accessory buttons w/in the car - including the motion detector OFF button on the driver's side door.
5) learn emergency jack procedures (MMI included)
6) learn how to lock and unlock the doors manually using the key (not the remote)

MMI:
1) No radio presets
2) Go over the Car/Settings portion of the MMI as this is mostly a global setting - every salesperson should at least go over these functions
3) Learn jack mode - best to familiarize yourself with emergency procedures now

It is nearly impossible for the salesperson to go over all of the functions of the MMI with you and hope that you will retain every bit of information. but the advantage is that it is a pretty intuitive system; hence you will be able to learn it yourself fairly quickly. I believe that navigating through the MMI function(s) is fundamental. Your salesperson should at least teach you that. beyond that, it'll depend on how much information you want to retain during the delivery process. don't worry though, we, here, know alot about this car so you have a place to come for any questions.

Good Luck!

Default Thanks. Great suggestions.

I'm looking forward to familiarizing myself with MMI. Test-drives just don't give you enough time. After 30,000 miles with (BMW's) iDrive, I'm not too concerned.

I just wish they'd call and let me know that the car has arrived! Not that I am impatient or anything, of course...
