Battery replacement cost / services
I was told I need a new battery on my 2000 A8. Was quoted $225 for battery and $150 to reset the controls (for mirrors, seats, etc) in the car. Seems outragous. Thoughts?

You're kidding, right? Why don't <a href="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/electrical_equipment/batteryreplacement.html">you do what 1998 A8 did</a> and get an Exide replacement for $68 and change it out yourself.
Reset the controls for $150? What, are you kidding? Tell them the next time they visit audipages.com to figure out a procedure for a customer's A8, it's $500.00.

Who told you and which dealer? Its sounds as though, after reading these post for the last 5 months, that many dealers plain out stink! We should publish a list and keep it current of dealers that consistantly over charge and for what particular procedures. Maybe this exists already but good grief, $225.00 for a battery? Ill sell you mine for $150.00 and Ill have Paldi install it for nothin`!!!!!!!

Did they check the water level in the battery?
The battery supplied in Audis from the factory is not a "no-maintenance" battery.
If you, or someone you know is comfortable with topping off the water level in the battery, I recommend going that route with a low-amp charge overnight. This brought my battery back to life, the only cost was time (a whole 30 minutes) and distilled water.
If you have never done this, please note that the battery acid can be dangerous.

If you don't want to do it yourself...
I wouldn't give this Stealer the business. You can go to Sears and have a Group 49 battery w/ 60 or 72 month warranty (I don't rember which) installed and the old one is disposed of, for about $110.00. You can reset all of the settings your self, if you lose them. Sears will maintain an electrical source so you should not need to do anything.
