Default Question for Greenie

Hi Greenie--I'm wondering about your video system in your front headrests. Is it an off the shelf system or custom designed and If you don't mind me asking, what was the approx. cost? Can any good shop do it or is this a really special job where I'd have to drive to Philly to get it done?? (maybe if the Packers are playing the Eagles...)

Jeff, of course Im going to tell you its a custom job! Now you have to drive that machine to Philly where we have the corner on "special shops"!! The head unit and screens are from Alpine and were installed by a local stereo shop. I gave the installer a CD and he is going to upload pix he took of the install onto the disc. He did everything EXCEPT the headrest work which I took the local upholstery shop, which was touted as one of the best in the area. After seeing the work(9 hours worth) and being charged a paltry $140.00, I agree!! The system is run by a remote control(like a TV remote) that lives in the center rear console with the head unit and the DVDs. The first aid kit was relegated to the trunk(sorry Red Cross). Sound is delivered through remote headphones ($150.00 for the pair)getting the signal from a remote eye that I had installed in place of the rear center ashtray. I had a piece of smoked lexan cut to fit the space and the eye lives behind it(I would have preferred smoked salmon but, oh, the smell)! My only issue is where to keep the headphones. They are in the trunk in the side net. I thought about ripping out that ski sack and putting a hook in the trunk right at the pass-through. We`ll see. I get my equipment at cost so with installation it ran about $1000.00. Are you a cheesehead by the way? Anyway, I hope this helps you insome way and I hope you are enjoying that machine! BTW, I mentioned this in a previous post, I leave the screens powered all the time and at night they give off this really nice blue light. Jeff, you gotta see the look on the drivers faces as they pass me, not that too many get that opportunity! LOL.

Thanks Greenie. Yes, I must admit I am a cheesehead. My wife owns a dairy distribution business. We drink milk and do eat cheese but not as much as everyone thinks. My wifes Chrysler van has a video screen and DVD player that my youngest (age 9) likes to watch and he saw your pictures and is now wondering why my A8L can't have a DVD player. I'm just looking into it. We probably don't go on trips enough to justify the DVD player but it sure looks cool!!! Jeff
