Cracked Drivers Window (WEIRD)
I stopped by Belle Tire (local chain in Michigan who always does great service) for a tire balance; after a little wobble at about 75 Mph.
About an hour later they pull my car out and say all done, it's dark outside now, and that they busted two small caps and stop by later this week and they will replace them for free. So I grab my keys and walk out to my car. The Drivers door window is now splintered in about 5-15 splints all starting at the little round grommet about 1" from the mirror all the way to the other black round grommet in the top corner. So they write up an incident and tell me to call them tomorrow and see if they did it (they don't think they did) or if it was a recall or other issue? The car is in great condition, the doors all close and open great, and I don't think it's a mechanical issue. They didn't bump it they say or do anything else to the car.
Anyone else seen this? I'm betting the person hit the mirror hard with something walking by, but then I also feel maybe it was a fluke or ???

I just bought a certified 2001 A8L from a local dealer here in Dallas. I noticed the same issue on my driver's window the first time I washed it. The dealer replaced it under warranty. They even re-tinted it, so it is a perfect match. The tech mentioned that he has seen the same issue on other pre-2004 A8s.

Welp after a trip to Audi today for a checkup; and talking about the unibody / stress on a lift, if the window was down or partially down, that could have easily done it. So Belle tire is paying for a new window first quote $670, 2nd $430, and I get my new window tomorrow. It's a pain trying to find Double Pane windows for an A8, had to call around today to a few shops.
