Brake glue?!

Any one got any details of the Glue used on the front pads?

I thought you just put your foot on the brakes and the piston pushed on the pad which pushed on the rotor.....but you're telling me there is glue?

Are you referring to "Disc Brake Quiet" spray ? It's a Permatex product and I use it....

on all my brake jobs. It's sticky like glue but it's not an adhesive. It dampens the vibration (aka noise) that pads sometimes make. It is sprayed onto the BACK of the pad before assembly never to the pad surface or rotor.

My original front pads had adhesive on them to hold them into the

brake carrier in addition to the clips. The glue was slightly pliable and I think acted like a damper to reduce ringing of the brakes at certain speeds while braking. I also noticed the original pads in my front brakes were shimmed to make up for slight variations in pad thickness and the brake assembly. The problem with dual piston setups is that one piston engages sooner until the pads wear down a little bit.

I replaced my pads and did not have the adhesive, and they do occasionally ring (not squeak). This started after 3-4 months. I took the wheels off last weekend and everything looked fine.

I will try the OEM pads next time to see if they come with the adhesive. Can you buy it separately?
