ABS light, brake squeal, and other fixes
a) Brake Squeal. I've been dealing with it for a long time. Following GrA8ful S8's recco to my mechanic on machining the rear rotors, they actually did find them glazed and modified them. No more noise--at least for now. Thanks!
b) I had the ABS/ESP lights coming on with "ABS Sensor Failure Intermittent" in VAG-COM for a while. Would clear the codes and they would come back on within days.
The mechanic put this down on the invoice
Remove and Install Instrument Cluster
Electrical Wire Repair
Apply Stabilant to Connectors
"ABS light on due to poor contact at conn T32B/19. Performed wire check due to no DTC's in memory R and R inst cluster, found black/red wire at term T32B/19 high resistance. Cleaned contacts and applied stabilant."
Paul, doesn't this sound like an awful lot of technical gibberish for a simple "cleaned the sensors"? :-)
c) I had indicated that the rear seat 12-vol adapter was not working. I was told that it's not supposed to work when the child lock on vehicle is activated! That's a nice one. Similar to the rear trunk button on the driver's side is not operating when glovebox is locked...
I also changed the front pads to EBC Greens (they claim a coeff. of friction that's at least 20% higher than OEM pads). I'll bed and test-drive for a while and will write impressions.
