Default K40 and other radar/laser detector/jammers: recent experience & opinions?

I'm shopping for radar and laser protection for my new A8. I've read a lot of old info. Anybody got recent units and experience? Detailed commentary on false alarms, overall effectiveness, alternative recommendations would be most welcome.

Default V1 & Lidatek LE-30 best protection, IMO.

Have not been lasered yet, but it's only a matter of time. Many testimonials on the S4 forums - guess they drive faster. Here's one from the SE forum a few days ago:

https://forums.audiworld.com/southeast/msgs/7025.phtml</a

Default I love my V1, but I just got nailed over the weekend...

It has saved me so many times, but my luck ran out last weekend. I was driving down I-25 in NM and trying to make up some time during my XC trip. The cop got me while driving in the opposite direction and drove across the median to come after me. I think it was instant-on because I had no warning until all of a sudden I got a full signal and it was too late. Busted! He said I was doing 95 in a 75 and wrote me up for 85 (only $65, but we'll see what it does to my insurance). I was driving a 300ZXTT, not my Audi. I am about to pick up my 98 A8 later in the week, but I don't think I can use the V1 because of the solar glass I think the only solution for a solar glass car is a bumper mounted unit like a K40 or Passport SRX/SR1.

Default I think most detectors are somewhat equal....

....not to say different detectors signal at different distances....I do agree with that.

But without a trained driver....they are all about equal....

And with instant on when the cop hasn't used it in over two miles of travel.....no detector is better than others.....

My old Passport has never let me down....not a once.

But I have gotten one Laser ticket with it on the NY Thruway years ago....the guy was in a rest stop and pinged me as I passed by.....it went to full scale....

And recently my Passport got me a warning in Ohio when the guy shot me.

Many times, you can see the cop taking laser long before your detector goes off. It's hard for them to hide when doing laser.

Just my 0.02

I have a K40 and love it, it does not have a lot of false alarms and I have not been pulled over since I purchased it. K40's are actually an american made product, have a lifetime warranty and have great support. The sensors are outside of the cabin unlike the V1. I have serious doubts about the V1's effectiveness with solar glass.

Read the V1 site. The instant-on radar stuff may be beatable in court.

Default I'll check it out, but I think I'm SOL..

because I live in San Diego and I got the ticket in NM. I'm not going to court in NM! Also, I think by signing the ticket I am admitting guilt.

Default Re: usually not admitting guilt

most tickets actually say on it that by signing the ticket you are merely confirming you received it, not admitting guilt.
