Passenger Side Door Mirror Problems

Hi,

I have intermittent problems with retracting the passenger door mirror. Soemtimes it will work and others it doesn't and on wiggling the whole mirror a bit and maybe moving it by hand it seems to work. What could I check out ? Could the mechanism need cleaning? could it be a motor problem ?

Any guidence appreciated.

We don't have folding mirrors in the US

But I do recall a thread on this on tyresmoke.net....I believe it was a cut or intermetient open wire behind the mirror glass.

You should pop the mirror off and inspect the wiring, probably easiest to remove the mirror cap also.

Use the handle end of a plastic spatula that you can get at any home improvement center.

If it's cold out, it's best to take a hair dryer and blow some warm air behind the mirror for a few minutes so you don't break the plastic parts.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/upgrades/chromemirrorold.html">How to remove the mirror glass</a></li></ul>

First, you would need the mirrors that fold

Then you would need the switch that tells them to fold....there is one extra position on the left/right/none selected button for the mirrors.....

Then you have to wire it up if there isn't a wire in place.

I was going to buy a set of folding pre facelift S8 mirrors from Germany a while back, but didn't win the auction....but did this research first.
