Default transmission filter kit. --what did Autohaus sent me? HELP>

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/46320/dsc06866.jpg"></center><p>Well, among "correct" cam shafts, Autohaus AZ sent me transmission filter kit 01L398009A. the filter looks correct, but the gasket looks wrong.
I will call them on Monday, but what is this for?? What should I tell them?

The package also has fallowing part numbers: 01L398009 A
See pics attached and URL.

I spoke to another guy who was reccomended on the a8 forum and he has the same number for my car. My package arrived open, Perhaps someone swapped it?
My car is a 99 a8 quatro and has a build date of 07/98

Thanks

Default You're golden

Hello Dennis,

Don't fret! The large gasket is for the transmission base pan, and it is correct. The filter does not have a gasket, it bolts to the bottom of the tranny inside the base pan. It does need the small o-ring when mounted (that's the in your bag as well).

Cheers,
Mike

Default That is a wrong gasket. The correct number is 01L398009A that you see

on the bottom label. The filter is ok.

The gasket you have will not fit on this pan.

Default Oops... sorry Dennis.

Oops... sorry Dennis.

The guys above are correct. I had forgotten the shape of the trans base pan.

I apologize for the confusion.

Check Paul W's link below for info on the correct filter kit.

Cheers,
Mike

-----------------From AudiPages-----------------

NOTE: 01L-325-429 is the filter part number for model year 1997 A8's that came with a type DPZ transmission with a serial number of 001891 or less.

01L-325-429-A is for all 1997 A8's with DPZ transmissions with serial numbers greater than 001892, DSM type transmissions and DTE transmissions. The DTE transmission was supplied on later 97's and all 98-03 A8's.

The transmission nameplate can be found on the bottom of the transmission just forward of the pan.
<center><img src="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/auto_transmission/tranfilchange14.gif"><img src="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/auto_transmission/tranfilchange15.gif"></center>

Location of nameplate. Nameplate data: 1) Transmission serial number 2)Transmission serial number 3)Transmission identification (all will be 5HP-24) 4)Code letters

<center><img src="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/auto_transmission/trannyfilter.JPG"></center>

Then order the correct kit.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/auto_transmission/autotranservicing.html">Paul W's transmission service page</a></li></ul>
