Which Audi should I get? A8 or A6 4.2 - help

Which Audi should I get? A8 or A6 4.2 - help

I have the option of a 97 or 98 A8, 53-44K on the milage, some maitenence done on both, one slightly nicer than the other. Both in the $15-$19K price range.
Now I also have the option of a 2001 A6 4.2, 63K, certified, for $23k.
I know this is the A8 forum but I need to find the differenced in size between the two cars and who would buy which verson? Please help a new member make a great decision.

I like 2000+ A8's because of 40V engine vs. 32V

I think the 2001 A6 4.2 (that jonrogue6 is considering) has the 40-valve engine, but

'97-'99 A8's have the 32-valve engine (in the USA).

I have a 99 A8 and close friends of ours have an A6 4.2. I've driven their car several times and there is a huge difference. The A8 has a lot more room and rides much better. To be honest I was disappointed in the A6, slighly quicker but not a good ride. Beware neither car is a good choice if you are concerned about reliabilty or maintenance costs.
