Re-call-a-rama finally for der lower control arms
Yep in the mail today recall
"Service Action JE"
Front lower suspension lower control arms.
A8 years 1997 to 2000 (amongst other models)
They will or maybe will as they say "The affected control arm(s) will be replaced free of charge if one or both front suspension control arms are worn or the rubber boots are degraded AND you can provide documentation of maintenance completed by an authorized Audi dealer or professional licensed repair facility according to the mtce. schedule for your vehicle." phfew!
Makes me wonder why they just don't recall and replace all of them instead of just wording this such that it will surely provoke stupid discussion and ill will.
I had the left front done about 6 mos ago and I think the right side creaks a wee bit now too after 30 minutes of driving.
But this is good news and may free cash to purchase uhmmm.... something really useful like a 28mm sway bar??
Yeah I'll be going for a loaner car too.. maybe an RS6 or sumthing

It sounds like it has to be defective, i.e. creaking ..
or torn boot IMHO. It's like they're kinda sorta in CYA mode to avoid something in the future. I say just "assume the sale" and tell them that your heard about recall JE and that your front end indeed has been creaking like crazy.
Interestingly enough this is a total north american recall but excludes anyone residing in ohio... best you stay put me thinks
