Default How accurate has the brake wear light been for you guys?

I just got this 98' last week and now the brake wear yellow warning light (looks like a sun or something) has been showing up periodically. The man I bought the car from said he had it all checked out and it didn't need anything except for a CV joint which was replaced. The brakes feel a bit weak (but then again I'm used to an 04' S4), but the pedal doesn't go that low at all. I probably need brakes soon... What do you guys think?

Default Could be thin pads or a loose electrical connection. The brake pad warning lights are.....

only on the front pads. Pull the wheels and look at the pads- if there is more than 1/4" of material left, then you likely have a loose wire somewhere. If the light blinks off and on, it is likely a bad electrial connection.

Default Thanks. It doesn't blink on and off..

but it will light up and stay on until I shut the car off. The next time I drive it may not go on for a little while and then it will come on and stay on. Just wanted to clarify.

Default If it were really pads, it would come on right away. Check for corroded plugs

When my light was acting like yours, the contacts in the plug for one side's pads were green with corrosion. Cleaning them with contact cleaner and something like a toothpick solved the problem. I also put some dielectric grease in the connection to try to keep water out.

The pad warning light works by cutting a wire in the pads, which is why a bad connection can turn on the warning and why the warning should come on right away if the pads are actually worn. It's not like older designs which turn on the light when a wire in the pad grounds against the rotor.
