Default OK...I LOVE this site BUT...

you guys are making me PARANOID. When do you actually recommend a timing belt change on a 2000 A8L 4.2 Quattro with 74,000 miles on it? I still plan on doing the trans flush, but I don't want to do unnessesary maintenance to early. As best I can tell it is due for a brake fluid flush also (which I plan on doing)and according to the previous dealer its' had a 60,000 mile service.
TIA, Phil

90,000 is the number. I'm at 90,0012 miles and counting...driving with fingers crossed and permanent sphincter pucker until I get around to it. Certainly before 91,000. However, the service card on the Bentley CD would seem to indicate that 104,000 miles is the correct mileage for a cam belt change. Methinks that is wrong. Anyone?

I'll take a couple of pictures when I get around to doing it.

Regards,

Brian C.

No need to do it at 72K, do it at 85-95K miles (85-90K miles for the conservatives)

Default Mine at 93K... But what can really make you paranoid: being solely dependent on an Audi dealer...

...without help and support from this forum or audipages for that matter! :-)

Default In Germany it's 120 000km which should be around 75K

I'm German, living in Luxembourg and driving a '96 4.2Q.
In my service book is written: Timing belt change every 120000 km. Don't know, if the previous owner really got it done. Stamp for 120K service is in, but had to change the tb recently @204K, 'cause it slipped for several teeth (was lucky - no damage). So IMHO be careful!!!
BTW AFAIK for the 3.7 it's every 90000km!
Greetings from Europe,

Axel

Default I replaced my TB at 84K miles and it looked new. No need to do it before the Auid recommended.....

maintenance interval, which I believe is 90K miles.
