Replacement headlight washer pump wiring backwards in the Bentley
+ white/red wire to terminal 2
- brown wire to terminal 1.
This is true for two such pumps, manufactured months apart. (I broke the first pump trying to remove the hose from it so I could troubleshoot the bad performance.) It is also consistent with wiring diagrams for 2004 A4 and A8 models. It's probably also how the original pump was wired -- I should have checked.
If there's any doubt before you install a pump, you can run it with a 9V battery, a couple of jumper wires, and a bowl of water.
On the good side, the Audi crimp & heatshrink splices recommended in the service manual are efficient if you have access to a decent crimping tool and a heat gun. When you heatshrink the insulation, it eventually oozes some kind of sealant around the wire to make the whole splice watertight.
