Default I got a Hybrid. 255 HP Accord. It is really amazing.

I have to admit it I am a gizmo guy and the moment I sat in that thing I knew I am getting it. First of all it is 255hp and has amazing pick up and handling. When you start the car there is no cranking, it is so seamless, some kind of totally new way of ignition. It is amazingly quiet and every time you are stopped with foot on the brake pedal the engine shuts down completely. The moment you lift your foot off the pedal the engine is back on. AMAZING! When you need more power the electric motor kicks in and the rpm's of the gas engine rarely goes over 3000 rpm. At constant speed 3 of the cylinders shut down and you cruise in 3 cylinders. The transition is completely seamless. The only way you know you are driving in 3 cylinders is the indicator light in the dash. It is basically as economical as a Civic or a TDI but with has 100hp more. It is rated 30 city and 38 highway not bad for a 255 HP car. The pick up from standing position is amazing. In case all these gizmos fail the car has a small conventional battery and a regular starter. In case of emergency it will drive like a regular Accord V6. These people thought of everything.

Default She also said, that it is rated 30 mpg in city, but she gets 26-27mpg.

She loves it, but it's only worth it if you drive a lot of miles a year. I am sure, that the resale value will be less than the regular V6 Accord.

Default Re: only worth it if you drive a lot of miles a year

Actually, probably the exact opposite is closer to the truth.

Low annual miles normally means you do a lot of city driving, where a hybrid has a significant fuel economy advantage. High annual miles normally means you're doing a lot of Interstate cruising, where a hybrid is running on only it's IC motor, and the extra vehicle weight puts the car at a fuel economy disadvantage.

Without the taxpayer subsidy, hybrids are normally a money losing deal; and as a result, not a good idea for anyone ... except perhaps for cab drivers.
