Axle nut - how tight ?

Axle nut - how tight ?
I'm going to install new front axles and control arms this week. I thought I would get a jump on the dissassembly today, so I removed the lower control arms from one side and went uh, oh...
Have you guys been able to get the axle nut off with an impact gun ? I'm asking because if I HAVE to have the car on the ground, I just dug myself a hole by taking the control arms off first. I have a 6 HP compressor and an IR gun that has never failed me but I don't want to take other side off yet if I going to have a problem.
I don't have, and can't get today, the 17mm hex otherwise I would just try it...

to get that nut off I had the wheels on the ground and
18" 1/2 drive breaker bar. impact gun... Maybe? might be easier to put the control arms back on. OR did you take the whole strut and housing out? IF you did you still might to put it back on ot at least the wheel and lower the jack to brake it loose. good luck
