Seeing some A8's at PLM this weekend makes me want one. Need opinions....
I need a winter car, and a bigger daily driver than the 911. I've been driving it to work everyday since July and it is killing me (other than the last 2 weeks where the roof has been out and nice weather). I saw JimR's and the AUDIOS plated one, and damn I must have one.
I've been checking out 97-99 A8's on ebay and the likes... Seems they go for a helluva range in price - $10-20k.
I hear transmissions can be a large ticket item @ relatively low miles...And typical Audi/German car eletrical/switch/etc gremlins.
So, is there any year better or worse? Is a nice 97 better than an OK 99, etc?
And..if you know any for sale, point them my direction.

Most tranny problems reported here seem to be limited to the 97-98s,
but I'm not sure if it's due to mileage or changes Audi made. Change the fluid and filter every 60k or so and you should be fine. The 97s did not have Tiptronic, but it can be retrofitted.
