Default '99 A8 Water continues to get into the engine control module

Water continues to get into the engine control module. I unclogged the drains, the seal looks good and all the screws are working. Last night I sealed it with silicone. I cleaned all the connections with electrical contact spray and got it to start fine, but continues to give me the same codes as before. What could possibly be causing the water to get in? and as an after thought did I do the right thing by sealing it with silicone.

Thanks in advance,
Oscar

Default Try some test

Try cleaning it out, then put the cover back on, then spray just the top with a hose. Inspect....is it wet again? If so, where is it wet on the interior walls? That's your problem.

If not, it's coming from somewhere below and coming up.....

Default There is another set of drains

Somebody here had a similar problem before, there is a set of drains somewhere inboard of the electronics box. Just aft of the motor as I recall.....but don't remember exactly.

If it's not sealing with the factory seal, then something is either wrong with the sealing surface of you need a new seal.

My first bet would be that the two are not mating correctly.

Paul,
Trying to clean the ECU, I bent 1 prong and almost broke another.
Now I have a continuos check engine light that cannot be turned off.

Should I buy a new ECU and change the plugs that connect to it?
Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Oscar

Default You'll have to pull the code

That will tell you what the problem is. ECU's are not cheap, what year do you have?

Used they are about $300 or more.

It turns out it is condensation biuldup on the box cover for the ECU. I placed the ECU in a
Ziplock bag...do you think that will work?
