'01 S8 Central Locking weirdness. (long)
I cleared the DTCs, but these came back...
vag-com says:
Control Module Part Number: 8L0 862 257 N
Component and/or Version: CV-Pump, Alarm, RC D16
Software Coding: 16141
Work Shop Code: WSC 08315
3 Faults Found:
01367 - Central Locking Pump Run Time Exceeded (Likely Leak)
35-00 - -
01372 - Alarm triggered by Door Contact Switch; Passenger Side or Rear
35-00 - -
01362 - Close Switch for Tailgate/Trunk (F124)
29-00 - Short to Ground
Now for the odd part. I think there's probably a mechanical problem in the drivers door. When the doors are locked, sometimes the electric switch will unlock them, other times not.
If not, and I pull on the drivers handle to manually unlock, it won't push the plunger up all the way. Maybe 50%. If I manually pull the plunger up the rest of the way, the door will open, from the outside only, not the inside. After I've gotten out of the car that way, the drivers door won't lock for ~5 minutes.
The car has a tendancy to lock the doors randomly, but never to unlock them without a fight. I wish I could say more than that, but it seems highly random.
So I think I have two seperate issues to tackle... The mechanical issue in the driver door, and the random weirdness with the central locking controller.
So my question after all that... Which sensor is "Tailgate/Trunk (F124)", and where do I find it?
Also, how likely is that sensor being grounded causing all manner of weirdness with the locks?
Anyone have any advice about what might be binding in the door handle mechanism?
Thanks so much for reading my saga!

Has the car had previous paint work? If yes, was it on the driver's door?
I would look at the driver's door hinge bolts, is it factory paint or have they been removed before?
If yes, I would take the driver's door panel off (easy, I could post a procedure if you need one, JimR has one on audipages) and look at the hoses.
That's the first thing I would do.
Actually, if you don't have the Bently, get that first.
There dosen't SEEM to be any paintwork done... I'm pretty sure someone has had the driver door skin off before though, so I'm on that route.
When I get the door skin off, I'll post again. Thanks for your reply!
