a8 headlights not working!!!!

I have a 1997 A8(4.2)with 87,000 miles - the headlights (including both fog lights)stopped working!!! The hi-beam doesn't work either - only if you pull the lever towards you that the high beam comes on- but of course they don't stay on in this position.

Does anyone know what the probelm could be??

P.S. I checked the fuses for the lo/hi beam and the fog lights - they were all good

You need to check your relays under the pass side footwell

I had a broken solder joint in the passanger side footwell relay that controls all of the lights. It may be broken.

However im not sure why the highbeams would only work in 1 position. So this could also mean you have a bad switch for the lights.

had the same issue ...

about a year ago. Just parking lights and if u pull the switch in, u get just the high beams. It was the light/cruse switch on my '98. Check audipages.com under cruse switch for how-to replace. Not that hard to do, just make sure u get the correct switch!

I've got this same problem in my '97 A8. Checked the ignition switch and it's fine. Haven't tested the relay yet but I'm curious, how'd you make out and what was the cure?
