Default Broken front seat heater switch on an '02 S8

Hey guys, a little while ago my front seat heater switch (driver's side) was acting a little funny- it was getting difficult to roll up and down. Well, finally it just got stuck (luckily in a position very close to 0 and 1 so I'm not burning my buns off!) and one day it must've been stuck in the "on" position and did not shut off when I removed the keys from the car causing my battery to be dead the next day. So after jumping the car, I just yanked the fuse and all is well as far as not killing the battery goes. So my question is anybody know what part needs to be replaced, where I can get it, and if this is a fairly simple job? Thanks in advance...

Default They are realitively easy to replace

I don't know if they are sold seperately, but you just take the climate control out by popping the wood trim off and unscrewing four allen head screws. The switch pops out or is secured by a screw from the back.

I changed them out on my car when I did my Nav Plus retrofit....I ended up getting two different climate control units, the second not having the heated seat option so I just swapped them from one to the other.

After finding this picture, I know you could buy the part (I would just get it from the dealer) and it swaps out.

Hey Paul, did you have to use the facelift HVAC controls with your NAV conversion?

Default I put in a facelift dash panel which included switches and HVAC controls

Here's a picture of my 97 with a facelift center console and Nav Plus

Default To get the wood panel off just pry the bottom part off

Then pop the top half off. Do this with your hand cupped to the bottom, it releases two built in pins and then you can do the top. Scary until it pops, but easy.

Default Hmmm, i leave my seat warmers on all the time>>>>

And that has NEVER caused my battery to go dead,as a matter of fact my wife and kids leave there seat warmers on ALL TTHE TIME,w/ no adverse effect???
Interesting thought though....

Default Yeah, I haven't really given it much more than a few minutes of thought, but in the back of my mind

I'm hoping it's just a switch issue. Hopefully something else hasn't shorted out allowing a constant power draw to be allowed after the ignition has been turned off. But that does draw the question of what the best way to tell if there is another underlying issue when the switch has been replaced (short of having the battery die again, that is). I guess maybe shutting the car down, then checking the seats a half hour or so afterward to see if they're still warm would suffice withouth killing the battery?
