Found a great link - repost
This is the actual homelink site that has
a walk though. You can narrow it down to the
model of the garage door opener.

HAhahahaa.. well I'll be damned if I didn't just program mine just last...
...night, near midnight. "Only" been near f'n 4 months with the pig.
Figured had enough of fumbling with 4 openers clonking around the f'n doorpocket (clipping leaves dents in alcantara or visor now), which are held together with dried up rubber bands that invariably crumble in me hand and / or zipties cause all their chassisisis are busted, always hitting the wrong opener, and most of the batteries dead enough I need to put them up to me chin to use me noggin as antennae.
Or something.
They key Sawyer is you have to press both your opener and the # button simultaneous and THEN run and push the "program" button on the opener motor itself, then push the # button again.
And stuff. I think.
I'm such a dork I woke up this a.m. to use for the first time and got quite the satisfied feeling out of it I did. First car I've had to have that, been ohsonice using it on Wifely's ML...
And things.

got a 2001 A4 ecru visor with homelink from ebay ....
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/87587/p1020127.jpg"></center><p>just took a homelink unit out of the A4 visor (big plastic cover one) which is all one piece. Cut my visor open and took the styrofoam stuff out to make room for it. The wires on the homelink are a hot and ground which can be found behind the mirror when you pop it out. Also, the pre-face A8s dont have power to the visor when they are flipped up. I just heated up a very small piece of metal and melted it in to the visor clip on the inside. This will make the 12volt connection when it's flipped up. If you don't do this it will still work, but only when flipped down.
Hardest part was finding an ecru homelink!
Also note the red leds in the bottom of the mirror like the 2000+ audis!!
