After 150 miles of freeway and then pulling into town, The Check engine light lit.

Error 17688 Air control valve N212 "Flow to low"
P1280-35-00

Could this be the TSB ice in the hose issue?

It is cold here!

Default This fault is set if pressure of air to injectors is to low

17688

Air control valve for injection valve
Through-flow too small


- Hoses clogged

- Check hoses
Check air control valve for injectors
=> Page 24-75
Testing function

Test conditions

? Coolant temperature at least 80 °C
? Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) and select engine electronics control unit with "Address word" 01. When doing this engine must be running at idling speed.
(Connecting fault reader and selecting engine electronics control unit => Page 01-2.)


? Display: Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX

? Press buttons 0 and 8 for "Read measured value block" function and confirm entry with Q button.


? Display: Read measured value block
Enter display group number XXX

? Press buttons 0, 3 and 5 for "Display Group number 35" and confirm entry with Q button.


? Display: Read measured value block 35 ?

After initiating the "Basic setting", the display in display zone 4 should jump from "Test OFF" to "Test ON".

Specified value in display zone 4: A-IV OK
If the specified value in display zone 4 is not reached:

? Check hoses for clogging.
? Electrically test air control valve for injectors=>Page 24-80.
? Press ?button.
? Press buttons 0 and 6 for "End output" function and confirm entry with the Q button.

Thanks so much

I believe I was at the "Check for clogged hoses" operation. and recalled reading about an "iced up condition.

Since this code has shown up several weeks ago, and now again. It seems to come and go.

The DTC is cleared now, next time I have the plastic off (Soon if I plan to check the CC assembly ;-0) the hoses will come under scrutiny as well.

Since the temperatures were very cold. Would this be a case of "Flight into known icing conditions?"

Default It was -25C this morning in Chicago. My coolant was good to -18C.

My radiator froze. The car overheated on my way to work. Lucky me we had an open dock at the shipping department so I put the car in to warm up. Fortunately there is no damage, everything is fine now.
