According to Audi, not only is the tranny fluid lifetime, but the chain drive is by design placed in the back of the engine since it's a 'set-it-and-forget-it' piece of hardware that we don't need to worry about...
you can also hear the difference when you start one up. there is just more of a mechanical symphony
Also, surprisingly, the C5 V8 allroads had this engine, while the C5 S6s and C5 A6 V8s had the 40V belt drive engine like in post-facelift D2s. Really screwy, on Audi's part.
