Do cars with and without traction control have the thumping issue??
This sort of thing could cause surging in rpm if the ecu gets a badly timed request for retard and this in turn may cause the trans to go hunting.
Has anyone here logged all measuring blocks while their car is actually hunting???
If so it may be worth finding someone with a similar car that doesnt hunt and running the blocks against the car that does
not shift as frequently, and not drop the TCC so readily as when the Cruise Control is not activated.
Hmm Disconnect the hardware, and activate the CC electricals, then drive "normally without touching the brake pedal. Will that do it?
I know, tough to try in real world road conditions, but..
Random thoughts.
I would try, but my CC is non-op at this time. If the non-op condition is hardware related, I didn't observe modified behavior during the last test drive. Unfortunately, I was not considering this aspect at the time, and could have easily missed something.
