are you asking if you can drive the car w/o some of the driveline installed?

Default Hmm ...can they???

Do a check on Tor-sen systems. They have some interesting characteristics, and "drive open" may be permitted.

They are designed to shunt the drive power to the end with the Most traction. a disconnected drive shaft would represent the least amount of resistance.

There may be a "slight complication" of output speed multiplication however. Differentials will do that.

I wouldn't try it.

Default I would NOT drive your Quattro without the rear driveshaft installed.

The torsen would likely tear itself apart, or some other nasty result.

Default consider this...

You could get a junkyard unit, take a chance, it might be good enough to use for some time. If not have it rebuilt then install it. Or, bite the bullet and get a new unit from the dealer. You're driving a fine car so it's OK to use fine parts.
