Default Transmission Results after changing throttle position sensor (TPS)

It's been a few weeks now, had probably 30 or more ignition resets, and about 300 miles.

Around Town, No More Hunting
I am happy to report that my transmission acts like a different transmission as compared to before.

I no longer drive in "4", I now exclusively drive in "D". The transmission shifts into 5th gear at 42 MPH indicated and pushes the car along perfectly with no more hunting of the torque converter (TC).

I do get hunting if in 5th and slow down to 39 MPH (about 1050 RPM) until I either lift or give it the smallest amount of gas and it downshifts to 4th. This is rare though. It cycles once or twice until it shifts.

Overall, I can't believe it, and I can state based on my opinion that it's a control problem in the transmission circuit that caused the hunting. It is obvious that with the given hardware (transmission, valve body, etc.) that the TCM can control it properly given proper inputs.

Torque Converter Drop Out on the Highway
The change out of the TPS did not have any effect (or minimal effect) of the TC dropping out from approximately 65 MPH down to 50 MPH. At 70+ MPH, it stays locked up, but you can see small surges on the tachometer but it still is either locked or regulating very close to locked.

However, once I lift on the gas when 65 MPH or less, the TC drops out of lockout, then picks back up (most likely to regulating mode, but close to lock up) then drops out and picks back up.

If I was a guessing man, once again, I would say it is input signal related. I believe it could be fixed.

What's Next?
First, I must finish my bathroom remodel.....however.....

It should be noted that the TCM receives a signal via the ECM for the throttle position sensor position.

It also receives a fuel consumption signal which is based on injector timing from the ECM. I will have to look into that next....

Overall, I'm very happy. CalG did not experience the same thing I did, but his TPS was in spec and mine was out of spec low.

I might just pull my old TPS apart to see what it looks like.

Default Danke

I would love to have anybody figure it out.....but considering I have been working on it for something like 4 years....I would rather figure it out myself!

:-)

I would be interested to see what somebody else's results would be who changed it out if they have the hunting problem.

Excellent -does this indicate that the hunt and thump may be seperate issues??

Default Great, all you need is a 6mm hex head and 3/8 drive

Be careful when you take apart the cruise control shaft that is connected to the diaphram....I broke the little plastic piece which was very brittle.

It takes no more than an hour start to finish and you don't need a procedure.

Default There is a little pin in the plastic piece, you need to pull it out first.

You need to unplug the intake temperature sensor and the TPS. Be careful with the TPS gasket.
