How much age/mile variance still OK between pairs of tires?
Anyway... as we were discussing it, Dad mentioned that the tires (Goodyear Eagle, same size as mine) were a few months old (maybe 3-6?). The fronts melted, but the backs are perfect.
My existing tires are definitely showing their years & I was thinking of getting a new pair to go with his two (which is a lot cheaper than a complete set of four Conti's).
How many miles difference before they cause trouble?
Newer ones on front or back?
The quote "I live my life a quarter mile at a time" comes readily to mind ...
And there is a thread down a bit discussing where to put new pairs of tires, but tire rack suggests new on back.
Anyway... The front tires don't look like they were damaged. They're still holding air just fine and the paint in that area seems good. I'm thinking that since heat rises, they could be OK?
The big downside is that the new tires they put on were 97T Michelin HydroEdge. (Dad likes his cars to drive "like an American-made couch.")
NOTE: I'd mainly be getting these to tide me over until I get a new set of Conti's.
