Default My timing belt job continues....FIRED HER UP...ran nice and quiet !!

After going through the tensioning procedure everything was going well. I had a very rough time getting the crankshaft position plug back in....lost some skin and part of a knuckle on that one. The tensioning job turned out very well. The final measurement is for a 5mm gap between the tensioner lever and the hydraulic pistion housing...I had about 5.2mm. All else worked out good. The gap between the belts and the belt guards is to be 1mm. Well the gap was quite a bit more than than when I removed the original belt. So I adjusted the guards down to about 1mm to 1.5mm or so. It is hard to get a good measurement. I have yet to install the drive belt stuff and all...but I just wanted to report that despite a couple of hickups all is well. Thank You to All who have responeded to my questions thus far.

Default Re: My timing belt - UPDATE: Warning lights on for.....

Well I finished getting everything back on the engine except the covers and a few odds and ends. Starts right up and idles fine. But the ESP, Anti-Lock, and Check Engine warning lights are on now. Too whipped to do any more work tonight. I have a cheapie scan tool and will try and find out more information tomorrow. Has anyone else had this happen?

Default good deal, you're past the danger zone. I let mine run for about 15 mins so I was sure there

were no leaks (and I could still see everything easily).

Default Aside from the alternator, I don't recall touching any other electrical components.

Obviously the CEL would be engine related (vac hose, etc.) I would assume that the ESP and ABS light are coming on from the same source/issue. I don't have ESP myself but know how it works.

Anything around the wheel area? I know you removed the leveling sensor for the headlight.

A scanner will p/u the CEL code, I don't know if a standard OBD unit will read the ABS/ESP code though.

Default Re: could be the load-level linkage I had to remove...but CEL...????

I had to remove the driver's side wheel, and unbolt the suspension level sensor linkage from the frame of the car. But NO electrical components were disconnected at all....except the passenger's side headlight assembly. I will do some checking and report back tomorrow. Darn...it's that dog-gone Murphy's Law again.....!

It's not the headlight leveling linkage. I've left it loose myself.

agreed, not the leveler. I mentioned that hoping it would recall something else you did

Default Re: My timing belt - NEW UPDATE 2-20-07

I used my cheapie code scanner and here's what it showed:

Engine Code 17521
ABS Code 18265
Transmission Code 18265

I cleared the engine code and the little light went out. But I could not clear the ABS or AT code of 18265. I also couldn't reference it as to what it means. What is this code?

Default Re: Code 18265 Load Signal Error from Egine Controller.....??

I've searched the forums and have read numerous postings referring to this trouble code. It seems to be related to many things like: MAF ; ABS ; Trans ; and ECU.

I will try go over every thing very carefully tonight, looking for bad hoses and loose connections. I have not yet hooked up the air tube that goes between the air filter box and the throttle body...could this intake of unfiltered air cause this problem? Is the air filter box have a sensor saying "no air flow" and yet the engine is running say "I have air"?

Default That was the problem. The Mass Air Flow sensor is in the "air filter box".

You probably had more than one engine trouble code.

The one you posted just relates to an oxygen sensors ahead of one of the catalysts, and is not caused by the disconnected air hose. Both pre-cat oxygen sensors are probably ready to be replaced at this mileage and, if they're like mine were, will continue to log such codes intermittently until changed.

If you're going to continue to work on the car, you'll really benefit from a Bentley service manual CD-ROM or web subsciption.
