97 Tranny Improvement and Tire Question

Default 97 Tranny Improvement and Tire Question

I'm writing first to sing the praises of Paul at Autobahn Performance north of Atlanta who was recommended to me from several of you on this site. He did a bunch of work recently (replaced a deteriorating and split breather hose and an overrun cut off valve and upper control arms but the biggest improvement was simply cleaning a speed sensor that has dramatically effected how this car now shifts! It's still hunting from time to time, but the improvement is HUGE! Thought I'd pass that along.
Also, hit a massive pothole that broke the steel belt on one of my front tires so I'm looking at replacing all 4 since it's time. Anyone had any experience with Kumho ECSTA ASX tires?

Could you elaborate on the speed sensor?

Wheel
Transmission input,/ engine speed
Transmission output?

With all that work done, did the battery power get cut to the ECM/TCU that would cause a reset?

My transmission works very well after a reboot, and as yet, I have not been able to see which signal, in or out that is being modified to affect such change.

Inspiration welcomed

Default I have the Kumho's on my car

Had them for over a year, I decided to go with all seasons for all year round in Chicago and I have a set of track wheels and R compound for the track and auto crossing.

They are just fine, handle well, are a little bit wider in the 225 then my old Continental's on my stock wheels, etc.

I would recommend them, especially for the price!

What speed sensor did he clean???

do you mean the G182 or G195? I cleaned the G182 and had similar (fantastic) results

Default oop, I misspoke. its the G195 I cleaned. Its on the pass side of trans, in distributor gear

housing. its one of two sensors for transmission output RPM and it gets very oily and grimy. it and the G182 (on the VB) need to match up or you get the "implausible gear ratio" error. But, like the TPS, it also contributes to telling the TCU when/how to shift

I understand the one he cleaned was located on the driver's side bell housing for the transmission. I'm not sure if it's the G195.

sounds like the connector for the VB. its got no rubber boot and gets real nasty
