Default Topic: Occasional stalling and the idle control valve....

I've cleaned the valve with brake cleaner a couple of times and it still stalls periodically. Anything else I can clean or tinker with to eliminate this unsafe problem? Next step is to buy a new ICV at a cost of $400.00+ .....ugh, at 90k+ miles this car is getting spendy.

If you have removed the IAC valve for cleaning, have you tried to apply voltage to check the operation of the moving part? smooth motion with changing voltage. I used a bench power supply and some clip leads. If I Recall, full motion was obtained at less than 7 volts. 12V might slam the solenoid pretty hard. Carbon build up or mechanical damage could be your trouble as well. I would look carefully at all vents and hoses. You could have an obstruction or a leak that is the root cause.

Under what conditions does she stall? Engine cold and coasting to a stop? Under throtle? What codes have you dumped if any? Anybody in your are that you can swap ICVs with for a bit before dropping 4 large?

Default i had the same problem...might want to make sure your ECU drains are clear...

check to make sure you dont have any water in the pass footwell or the ECU case itself. My car was stalling and that was the problem i think...

Default Only experience it while coming to a long slow stop...

such as exiting on a long freeway offramp. Its dangerous...and my wife drives this car.

Default Don't think it matters if the engine has warmed up.....

actually I know it doesn't matter. Its died on an offramp during a road trip back from Idaho.

Default Good idears....

but a little too technical for me. Would like a cheap fix but if I have to buy a new ICV I would like to be sure that its the root of the problem.

Default It could be a sticky torque converter solenoid.

It would not stall because of the ICV on cold engine. Try to put it in N when you come to a stop. If it still stalls, then ICV. If nor then TC solenoid.
