Default Okay....More Troubleshooting on the Load Signal and Intake Air Temp Sensor

So this afternoon I had an hour to screw around in the garage, took my PC out there and found some weird stuff.

I started looking at the "load" block that you can find in multiple groups, one of them being 008.

I found that it was basically never below 19%, even when idling.

I thought that was odd. I drove around, and at 1/8 throttle or less (normal acceleration) I found that it would be 35-45%. Weird, I would think it would be much less.

I could not find info on its range in the Bently, however, my search was not that great.

I started looking at other components.....look at the intake air temperature, which is block 4 under measuring block 003. It reads the charge air temp downstream of the MAF, but upstream of the throttle flapper.

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/images/throttleposition1.JPG">

In the above picture, the engine coolant temp is block 3 which is 105 C, and the intake air temp is 46.5 C. Funny, because it's 0 C outside right now in Chicago.

I could not get it to drop below 38 C during my test drive. I was thinking maybe it was down stream of the throttle, but it's not.

Here's a picture of it from when I changed my throttle Position Sensor, it's the little brass thing:

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/images/sm_DSC01966.JPG">
<img src="http://www.audipages.com/images/sm_DSC01967.JPG">

So the next step is to go back in there and check resistance readings of it to see if it is out of spec (I'm thinking it is), and if so, replace it.

So I took one more screen shot with my foot barely on the gas accelerating:

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/images/throttleposition2.JPG">

Notice:

Throttle Angle: 4.8 degrees (0 is idle, 80 is full throttle)

1360 RPM (driving down my alley)

Intake air temp: 51 C (but it's 32 F, 0 C outside)

Load: 34.7%, like I said, I barely had my foot on the gas....

Wonder if the charge air temp sensor is bad, if it would have a significant change to load %.

I know CalG will respond!

Default on second thought, your numbers are spot on.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/94744/at_idle.jpg"></center><p>
19% load at idle in park.
and isnt Group 3 Block 4 coolant temp on the other side of the thermostat ie- returning from the radiator?? the air cant be warming up that much. my temp is 55C and it 52F ambient here...

turn off the heat (ac) and the % drops to ~15-16

they can be checked against measuring block specs in manuals

Default Block 4 is the intake air temp sensor, G42, not radiator water

If I drive it around with my foot down on the pedal to allow more air flow, it goes down, but never got it down below 35C.

I will have to pull it apart and check resistances per the bently.

You might want to try something else if you have hunting....I did a "basic setting" per the Bently....fuel injection, OBD, basic setting.

You just warm your car up, then do a basic setting on channel 000.

I can't get it to hunt in 5th gear at 39-41 MPH now.....but it might just be me.....

Default EDIT: mine doesnt hunt and it doesn't shift to fifth at less than ~45-48 mph

0001

but I'll try the basic settings thing and let you know if there is a perceptable difference.

Do you have a pre-facelift non-hunting car to ref yours against? If not, I'm happy to pull values and post them.

Default from a non hunting car

these groups were taken at different times so relate them to the RPM not to each other.
I will log the groups together today and post here later
